IYC Ambassadors Program
The IYC Ambassadors Program is a great opportunity for youth to not only get community service hours but to also gain valuable customer service and public speaking experience. IYC Ambassadors represent the IYC in their schools, community groups and among their friends. Once training has been completed, Ambassadors duties include but are not limited to bringing newcomer youth to the centre, informing them about the programs and services available and giving the new client a tour of the IYC. For more information about this program contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator at Ext. 207.
iCAN Committee - Youth Council
IYC Community Action Network (iCAN) represents youth voices within the IYC. They help newcomer youth integrate within the community by planning events, creating awareness of different topics such as multiculturalism. They also get youth at IYC involved by creating volunteer opportunities. The iCAN Committee provides its members with an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills. For more information about how to join the committee, contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator at Ext. 207.
Volunteer Orientations and Trainings
In order to become an eligible volunteer at the Immigrant Youth Centre, you must attend a Volunteer Orientation (held every 2-3 months) and sign up for job categories you would like to (or be able to) volunteer in. Our Volunteer Services Coordinator will send out emails about volunteer positions as they become available.
Volunteering in the Community
The IYC offers many bridges and networking opportunities for you to find volunteer opportunities in different areas in the community.
Youth Supporting You
Make a difference in someone's life by volunteering as a mentor. Mentor a newcomer youth by having weekly visits, going out to events together and just attending to their needs and helping them in whatever issues or questions they may have. Training will be provided.
